Bhutanese envoy visits proposed SEZ area in Kurigram

Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Rinchen Kuentsyl has said Bhutan will be benefit from the employment and economic development of the people of Bangladesh if the special economic zone (SEZ) is established there.

The ambassador, who is on a two-day visit to oversee the proposed SEZ area in Bhogdanga Union of Sadar upazila of Kurigram district, made the remark with hope that establishment of this economic zone would lead to educational culture and economic development as well there, reports BSS.

On the first day of the two-day tour, Rinchen Kuentsyl visited the proposed economic zone area and Sonahatshal Port at the eastern end of Dharla Bridge in Kurigram city this afternoon.

If the work of this economic zone is finised, business ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan will be strengthened in the days to come, the ambassador added.

Senior officials of the Bhutanese Embassy, Chief Trade Officer Keenly Yangzom, Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) General Manager (Finance Budget) Sheikh Md Jobayed Hossain, Kurigram District Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif, Kurigram Police Super Al Asad Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Kurigram Municipality Mayor Kajiul Islam and Bhogdanga UP Chairman Md Saidur Rahman, among others, were present there.

The DC of Kurigram said the district administration has handed over 133.92 acres of Khas land, including Madhabaram Mauza of Bhogdanga Union of Kurigram Sadar to the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and there is also a proposal to acquire another 86 acres of land there.

This Khas land is located on the north-east side of Syed Fazlul Karim (R.) Jamia Islamia Madrasa at the eastern end of Dharla Bridge, it is mentioned.
