The ratio of classified loans in the banking sector jumped to 20.20 per cent by the end of December 2024 from September's figure of 16.90 per cent.
The volume of bad loans in banks soared to Tk 3.45 trillion from a September-end count of Tk 2.45 trillion, according to the data of Bangladesh Bank (BB) revealed on Wednesday.
Briefing the reporters, BB Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur said the ratio of bad loans would continue to rise in the coming days as the regulator has no intention to show a controlled figure.
As per data, the rate of NPL (non-performing loans) in government banks rose to 42.80 per cent while the ratio in private banks was 15.6 per cent.
