Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home a total of $810 million in remittances in the first 10 days of May, according to Bangladesh Bank sources.
Of the $810 million, $93.95 million came through state-owned banks, $1.86 million through specialised banks, $715.13 million via private banks, and 2.84 million through foreign banks, a local television channel reports citing the central bank sources.
The remittance inflow has increased in the first 10 days of the current month compared to the corresponding duration of the last four months, with the migrant workers sending $731 million, $679 million, $718 million, and $763 million to Bangladesh in remittances during the first 10 days of April, March, February, and January, respectively.
Bangladesh had received $2.04 billion in remittances in April, $1.99 billion in March, $2.16 billion in February, and $2.10 billion in January this year.
