Classified loans surge to record Tk 2.84 trillion in September

Classified loans in the country’s banking sector increased by nearly 17 per cent, reaching Tk 2.8449 trillion as of September 2024, according to Bangladesh Bank statistics released on Sunday.
This marks the highest level in many years, according to bankers.
The banking system currently has a total of Tk 16.828 trillion in outstanding loans.
However, it is facing a provision shortfall of Tk 553.78 billion as of September.
