The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is set to review four projects valued at Tk 240 billion in its meeting on Monday.
Projects including two new and as many revised ones will be discussed in the meeting.
The meeting will also seek approval to extend the duration of eight additional projects without proposing any cost increases, according to Md Mahmudul Hasan, senior information officer of the Planning Advisor's Office.
The first ECNEC meeting under the interim government was held on September 18, following the political transition after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, bdnews24.com reports.
In that meeting, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus emphasised reconsidering projects taken for ‘political reasons’ by the previous administration and withdrawing from ‘unnecessary’ ones.
Four projects were approved during that meeting, including two from the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
The 'Bakhrabad-Meghnaghat-Haripur Gas Transmission Pipeline Construction (first revised)' project saw an increased cost of Tk 706.3 million, while Tk 5.884 billion was allocated for the 'Drilling of Two Appraisal Cum Development Wells (Sundalpur-4 and Srikail-5) and Two Exploratory Wells (Sundalpur South-1 and Jamalpur-1)' project.
The Ministry of Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs received Tk 4 billion for the ‘Sustainable Social Services Delivery Project in the Chattogram Hill Tracts (phase II)’, with Tk 2.9984 billion coming from government funds and Tk 1.0016 billion provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund, or UNICEF.
The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs’ ‘Tottho Apa: Empowering Women Through ICT Towards Digital Bangladesh (phase II, second revised)’ project was approved for a one-year extension, with instructions to revise the project’s name and re-estimate costs.
Although an initial proposal suggested increasing the budget by Tk 1.6311 billion for two years, the cost will now be reduced due to the one-year extension.
