Bangladesh’s point-to-point inflation rate has dropped slightly to 9.17 per cent in April from that of 9.35 per cent in the previous month, March, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data showed.

The rate of inflation climbed to a 13-month high at 11.38 per cent in November this fiscal year (FY) 2024-25, which started falling in the subsequent months December, January, February and March.

The inflation rate in December fell to 10.89 per cent, then to 9.94 per cent in January and 9.32 per cent in February this fiscal, the official data showed.

Meanwhile, the April inflation rate was slightly lower due to the fall of the inflation rate, both in food and non-food items in March.

The rate of non-food inflation fell to 9.61 per cent in last month, April, from that of 9.70 per cent in the previous month, March.

On the other hand, the food inflation rate also dropped to 8.63 per cent last month from that of 9.93 per cent in the previous month, the BBS data showed.

The higher inflationary pressure started to bite the middle, lower-middle and poor people two years ago, as their expenditure for buying necessary items was eating a lion’s share of their wages and monthly incomes.
