Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) organised 'CUDS Inter-Department Debating Competition 2023.' This competition was held with the active participation of 20 teams from different departments of Chittagong University (CU) to develop free-thinking skills among the students.
On December 15, the preliminary round of debate was held at The Faculty of Business Administration, CU. The final round of the competition was held at the CU Intellectual Square. The Department of Sociology won the champion trophy in the final round, and the Institute of Education and Research became the runner-up.
Rajiur Rahman Ariffrom, the Department of Sociology, was selected as the best debater in the competition, winning the 'Debater of the Tournament' title.
The debaters of the winning team were Aheli Azman, Anika Anjum, and Rajiur Rahman Arif. On the other hand, the debaters representing The Institute of Education and Research. Junaid Ahmed, Tahsina Rahman, and Tanveen Kayes were in the runner-up team.
About a hundred students, including 20 teams from various university departments, actively participated in the competition. A 15-member jury board judged the competitors and prepared the result. The competition was conducted in the Asian Parliamentary Debate (Bangali) system in tab format.
Mahtab Shaon, former vice president of CUDS, moderated the competition in the final round. Judges of the competition were Shefayet Ullah Maruf, President of FSET Debate Club, USTC; Shariful Quader Rakib, President of IIUC Debaters Community; Arjan Tripura, Former Event and Logistics Secretary of CUDS; Abdullah Al Asad, former president of CUDS and Mohammad Minhazul Islam, former vice president of CUDS also played the role as judges.
