Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) launches the 18th workshop on debate and public speaking. The inauguration programme was held recently at the auditorium of Faculty of Business Administration, CU.
Prof Benu Kumar De, pro-vice chancellor of CU attended the programme as the chief guest. The programme was supervised by ABM Abu Noman, former dean of Faculty of Law, CU. Besides, Prof Siraj Udullah, dean of Faculty of Sociology, Prof Helal Uddin Nizami, dean of Faculty of Business Administration, and Shifat Sharmin, dean of Faculty of Law, were present at the programme. The programme was conducted by Kayes Md Sayfullah, president of CUDS.
The workshop will be continued for two months and more than 600 students registered to participate in the workshop. The first class of the workshop was taken by Sakib Bin Rashid, debater and chief instructor of Robi Ten Minute School.
Prof Benu Kumar De, pro-vice chancellor of CU, said that debate is not to bargain with each other unnecessarily rather, it is a method to find a meaningful solution through complying with different opinions.
Shifat Sharmin, dean of Faculty of Law, CU said, "Debate teaches us how to respect the opinions of different people. I admire the initiative of CUDS as it will be helpful for the students to get new knowledge."
ABM Abu Noman, former dean of Faculty of Law, CU compared debate as a part of culture. He said, "Debate has some unique characteristics which can create positive changes in society."
Prof Helal Uddin Nizami, dean of Faculty of Business Administration, CU said, "I am very happy to see a workshop arranged by CUDS. I believe that this type of programme will help to develop the creativity of the students."
Prof Siraj Uddulah, dean of Faculty of Sociology, CU said, "Debate is a good way of learning which helps the students enhance their learning skill. I hope that the participants of the workshop will be able to develop their conceptual skills."
Marzook-E-Elahi, joint secretary of CUDS, said, "CUDS arranges this kind of workshop each year. This year we got a huge response from the students. I believe that the students will learn many new things from the workshop."
