Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) arranged a discussion meeting and Ifter-party with the leaders of all the political and social student organisations, where all met under one roof on Friday (March 29) at TSC.
Among the leaders of various political organisations, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, DU Branch President Mazharul Kabir Shayan, General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Chhatra Dal DU President Ganesh Chandra Roy, General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, Bangladesh Chhatra Adhikari. Council President Bin Yamin Mollah General Secretary Ariful Islam Adeeb, Democratic Student Shakti Convener Akhtar Hossain and Member Secretary Nahid Hasan, Bangladesh Students Union President (Part) Ragib Naeem, General Secretary Rakibul Roni and the leaders of all political student organisations were present.
The theme of this year's discussion was 'Crisis in Education: Relevance of DUCSU.' Former DU professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque presented the main article on this topic. Al-Sadi Bhuiyan, president of the Dhaka University Journalists Association, presided over the discussion meeting.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal was present as the chief guest. Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque, a former teacher of DU, spoke as the main speaker. Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib said to the DU administration that free election and movement of all political student organisations on the campus should be ensured. Halls should be freed from political organisations, and students should be accommodated.
Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's master plan to be implemented as soon as possible to solve the university's housing crisis, library crisis and other problems.
As the special guest, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Sitesh Chandra Bachar said, "It is really good to see people of different ideologies here. It represents Dhaka University."
In the speech of the special guest, pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Muhammad Samad said, "We do not deny DUCSU. It will be known when it can be done by discussing with VC sir.
Professor Abul Qasem Fazlul Haque said student parliament elections were held at Dhaka University from 1921 to 1947 and in Pakistan. However, after independence, Bangladesh has become very stagnant. The university has undergone various changes over time.
"However, bringing more changes in the education sector is necessary. I request the University Vice-Chancellor and the administration to develop the university education further and rethink the election of students' trust body DUCSU."
In the chief guest's speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, said, "We have no objection to the DUCSU election. It expands the co-curricular activities of the students."
The Vice-Chancellor said, "We have started work to solve the housing crisis, library renovation. We hope that when the master plan work starts, we can change the overall picture of the university and ensure a favourable learning environment for the students."
In the president's speech, the president of the Journalists' Association, Al-Sadi Bhuiyan, said, "We want the Journalists' Association to always have political coexistence on the campus and students get the opportunity to practice healthy politics."
He thanked the leaders of the university, the leaders of all political student organisations, and all those involved in the organisation for completing the event.
