President has nominated two new syndicate members of Jahangirnagar University

The Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University and the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has nominated two new members to the Syndicate, the highest policy-making body of the university.
The newly appointed members are Professor of the Department of Statistics, Dr Ajit Kumar Majumder and Professor Dr Md. Ashraf-Ul-Alam of the Statistics Department of Jagannath University.
This information was informed in a notification signed by Shatarupa Talukder, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, today (March 21).
The notification mentioned, with the approval of His Excellency the President and the Chancellor, two teachers have been nominated as members of the Syndicate of the University for two years as per Section 22 (1) (g) and 22 (3) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973.
Earlier, on November 8th last year, a list of names was sent to the Ministry of Education from the University's VC Office to nominate members.
On being nominated as a member of the Syndicate, Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder said, "I express my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Vice-Chancellor for offering me this honour. Above all, I am grateful to the honourable President, Prime Minister, Minister of Education of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and everyone. I have been entrusted with an important responsibility to run the university (by making decisions). I am very happy to be given this responsibility as a stakeholder. I will work for the university with my best talent and integrity as before."
Professor Dr Md. Ashraf-Ul-Alam said, "His majesty, the President, has nominated me as a member of the highest policy-making body of one of the largest universities like Jahangirnagar University. It is a great pleasure and honour for me. I express my gratitude to all who are involved in this process."
Professor Dr Md. Ashraf-ul-Alam completed his Bachelor's and Master's in Statistics at Dhaka University. Then, he started his teaching career at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). After successfully teaching there for about 16 and a half years, he joined Jagannath University in 2010. During his successful career as an Educationist and Administrator, he served as an elected syndicate member of SUST, a syndicate member of Jagannath University for five years, Dean of the Science Faculty of Jagannath University, Chairman of Statistics Department and President of the Teachers Association and so on.
On the other hand, Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder is a 6th-batch student of the Statistics Department of Jahangirnagar University. He received his MSc from the University of Victoria, Canada and his PhD from Monash University, Australia. In 1983, he joined the University as a lecturer in the Department of Statistics and was promoted to Professor in 1999. He served six times as elected president of the University's Teachers' Association.
Besides, he has served as the elected Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Studies, Syndicate and Senate member, Hall Provost, Proctor, Chairman of the Department, Acting Teacher of the University Library and President of Bangabandhu Shikkhak Parishad, an organization of pro-Awami teachers of the university.
