The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) suspended an activist of BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, on charges of threatening to attack students inside a residential hall.
The activist is Sheikh Fakabbir Shin, a 2022–23 session student of the Oceanography Department and reportedly close to the university unit Chhatra Dal General Secretary, Naeem Sarkar.
Fakabbir resides at a student mess outside the campus, according to a UNB report.
Proctor Mokhlesur Rahman said the decision was made during the university’s 236th syndicate meeting on May 17.
“The disciplinary committee recommended the action based on the investigation report, which found the allegations against Fakabbir to be credible,” he said.
On January 5, Fakabbir reportedly entered Room No-436 of Shah Paran Hall and threatened students with a knife. In response, the university formed a four-member probe body led by the Director of Student Welfare, Md Ishak Mia, on January 9.
