A three-day long Science Fair and Science Olympiad of National Science and Technology Week will kick off on the premises of NMST on Monday, aiming mainly to inspire the country’s youth in science- and technology-based modern education.

A total of 700 contestants across the country will take part in the fair this time marking the 44th National Science and Technology Week. The theme of this week is “Solar Energy Potential and its Well-being”.

Minister of Science and Technology Affairs Yafes Osman is expected to remain present as the chief guest at the award-giving and closing ceremony of the fair.

The Science Olympiad and Quiz competition are being organised for the seventh time to prepare the youth for facing challenges of the fourth industrial revolution to attain sustainable national development.

Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director general, National Museum of Science and Technology (NMST), came up with the information at a press conference at a NMST auditorium on Sunday.

Speaking at the function, Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said this science fair will bring revolution in the arena of science and technology.

This is a particularly great opportunity to stimulate the youth section of the society in the pursuit of knowledge and thereby flourish their innovative capacity, he said.

If the young generation are freed from all kinds of social crimes like obscenity, drug addiction, mobile addiction and engaged in scientific research, then latent talent will be released and new avenues of innovation will be revealed, according to him.

In reply to a question from a journalist, Munir said through this nationwide contest, the NMST is trying to incorporate the remote- areas students who are mostly lagging behind in the pursuit of science and technology knowledge.

The NMST has chalked out different types of comprehensive programmes on this occasion. More than 1000 guests including teachers, students and politicians are set to attend this event.

Participants will exhibit different innovative projects while the fair too includes science olympiad, quiz competition and so on. On this occasion, at least 155 stalls are being set up in the NMST Complex.

The biggest attraction is the presentation of various innovative science projects or models by the young scientists.

These include fire prevention, smart agriculture, solar power, wind power, environmental pollution control, climate change, robotics, green urbanisation, medical systems and numerous other models.

Earlier, the National Science and Technology Museum in cooperation with the Upazilas and District administrations organised this science competition in 493 upazilas and in 64 districts across the country.

Winners from Upazila, District and Divisional level are participating in the 44th NMST fair.
