A national-level training workshop titled 'Inclusive Education, DiversAsia Toolkit, and Accessible Reading Materials' was held in Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Thursday in partnership with the DiversAsia project.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Nurul Alam inaugurated the workshop in the Senate Hall. During the inauguration, he expressed the university's strong commitment to promoting inclusivity in education.
The main objective of the workshop was to empower the higher education institutions (HEIs) in India and Bangladesh with essential resources and expertise to offer inclusive higher education opportunities to students with disabilities.
The DiversAsia project aims to enable individuals with learning disabilities to actively participate in digital educational materials, like open educational resources (OERs) and massive open online courses (MOOCs).
Professor David J Brown from Nottingham Trent University delivered a presentation emphasising technology and learning difficulties in inclusive higher education.
Dr. Mufti Mahmud, Assistant Professor of Nottingham Trent University, and Karel van Isacker from Belgium shared valuable insights on accessible reading materials and implementation of the DiversAsia Toolkit.
Around 130 teachers and administrative staffs from different public and private universities participated in the workshop. The attendees received comprehensive training in inclusive education, including guidelines, checklists, and leading-edge practices aligned with the Universal Design of Learning (UDL) principles.
