‘From Paris with Love,’ the name may seem like a romantic movie. But don’t let this fool you, as this movie is all about gunslinging action sequences and fighting terrorists.
Famed for action movies, French director Luc Besson gained another successful project as a producer after Liam Neeson starrer ‘Taken’.
The film centres around American buddy cop duo James Reese and Charlie Wax, who sets out in Paris to foil an imminent terrorist plot.
James Reese works in the US embassy as a personal aide to the ambassador and a low-level CIA operative who aspires to be the full-fledged agent of the latter organisation.
He is then tasked to partner with CIA operative Charlie Wax who tests him since his arrival in Paris, to check his eligibility as an operative.
Their investigation about a high-profile murder also leads them to a terrorist plot to bomb an international summit where US officials are attending.
After neutralising a wide array of criminals and terrorists hunting them for unknown reasons, an unexpected twist in the plot leads to Reese’s girlfriend, who happens to be the undercover terrorist, betraying Reese of their relationship.
This makes Reese a tough choice, choosing between his love and protecting national security.
John Travolta’s portrayal as Charlie Wax and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as James Reese make them an odd but entertaining duo.
John Travolta also manages to centre his role in this film after his major success as a supporting character in widely acclaimed Pulp Fiction.
Travolta portrayed Charlie Wax as an adrenaline-fueled gunslinger bald man with vivid humour and brutal seriousness. Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ portrayal of Reese makes him a resilient but supportive partner of Wax.
Luc Besson is generally known for directing or producing action-thriller films. He had his breakthrough as a director after the massive success of Léon: The Professional in 1994. Since then, he made several successful action-thrillers like the Transporter trilogy, Taken, etc. From Paris with Love added to his tally in 2010.
