The maximum temperature in Dhaka city has increased by around 2 degrees Celsius within a day.
AKM Nazmul Haq, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said that the maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is up by 1.8 degrees from Saturday.
The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius in Jashore on Sunday and 42.6 degrees in Chuadanga on the previous day.
Given the current conditions, the country’s temperatures would not vary much during the remainder of this month. At least Monday, temperatures would be the same, according to the BMD.
A heatwave started on the first day of this month in various parts of the country and persists as of this day, April 28, marking it as the longest in 76 years.
This month last year, the country witnessed a heatwave of 16 days.
Although there was a heatwave of 20 days in Rajshahi in April 2010, it was not in a row.
The current month’s heatwave is notable not only in terms of its duration but also in terms of affecting the most places of the country.
The country has witnessed only one nor'wester this April, marking a 43-year record for the fewest northwesters this month.
Nor’westers help reduce temperatures. But as this month has witnessed only one nor’wester, the heatwave remains unrelenting across the country.
