The government has decided to use a ‘Brick Kiln Tracker’ to help identify environmental polluters and illegal brick kilns and take appropriate legal action against them.
The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said this on Thursday, adding that “(with this tracker) it will be easier to stop illegal activities by identifying highly harmful brick kilns on a priority basis.”
As a result, it will be possible to reduce air pollution caused by brick kilns, he added.
The minister made the remarks in a meeting at the secretariat.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that the Brick Kiln Tracker, based on IT and remote sensing technology, has been developed as a joint venture between the Department of Environment and the National University of Singapore.
He said monitoring and enforcement activities of the Department of Environment will be strengthened and successful with the help of this latest technology trucker with artificial intelligence.
Secretary of the ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed, along with senior officials of the ministry and Department of Environment, attended the meeting.
