The High Court on Monday issued a ruling asking to know why the failure to formulate environment-friendly laws, rules and policies on felling and planting trees should not be declared illegal.
At the same time, it sought to know as to why the inaction and apathy of the authorities in controlling the heatwave should not be declared illegal.
The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque issued the ruling upon a petition on Monday.
The environment secretary, director-general of the Department of Environment and others concerned have been asked to respond to the ruling within the next four weeks.
Lawyer Tanvir Ahmed presented the petitioner during the hearing.
