Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Md Sharfuddin Ahmed on Monday laid emphasis on stopping the sale of antibiotics without prescription of doctors.
"Antibiotics should be prescribed after performing necessary tests. Doctors must know latest efficacy of antibiotics," he told a function of publishing report on sensitivity of antimicrobial at Shahid Dr Milton Hall of BSMMU, BSS reported citing a press release.
Department of Microbiology and Immunology of BSMMU published the report on antimicrobial sensitivity of all types of germs at the function.
The BSMMU VC called for ensuring appropriate use of antibiotics to recover from various diseases.
Other health experts said Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) has become an epidemic in the world now. If it is not prevented now, it will take a more serious turn in future, they added.
