The massive fire that broke out at the Secretariat, the central hub of the Bangladesh administration, could be an act of ‘sabotage’ attempting to ‘derail the interim government,’ believes Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.
The labour and local government advisor warned that anyone involved in such ‘sabotage’ would not be spared, reports bdnews24.com.
“We have been working on the embezzlement and corruption at the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Co-operatives during the last government’s rule. We found proof of embezzlement of billions of taka,” the advisor wrote in a post on Facebook on Thursday.
“We’ve yet to learn the extent of the damage caused by the fire. Whoever is involved in the conspiracy to derail us won’t be spared.”
A major blaze broke out overnight at Building No. 7 of the Secretariat around 1:52am on Thursday. It was brought under control at 8:05am with the efforts of 19 units of firefighters and was completely extinguished around 11:45am.
During the operation, firefighter Md Sohanur Zaman Nayan was crossing the road in an attempt to connect a water hose when he was rammed by a truck and critically injured. The truck then rushed off. He later died in the hospital.
Asif, the advisor to the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Co-operatives said,” “Currently, I’m in Nilphamari. I’ll be back in Dhaka as soon as possible.”
Salah Uddin, a spokesman for the ministry, said that all programmes of advisor Asif in north Bengal until Sunday have been postponed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances.’
