Police have been granted two days to question Shah Kamal, a former senior secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, in connection with a murder case filed at Dhaka's Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah issued the order after police sought a seven-day remand to interrogate him in custody.

The court also rejected Kamal's bail plea during the hearing.

On Aug 16, police recovered Tk 30 million in cash and foreign currencies from two flats owned by Shah Kamal in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

He was arrested the next day from his residence in Dhaka’s Mohakhali.

Police subsequently filed a case against Shah Kamal under the Foreign Currency Control Act 1947 with the Mohammadpur Police Station. Kamal was then placed on a five-day remand and has remained behind bars since.

Kamal served the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief as secretary and later senior secretary from 2015 until his retirement on Jun 29, 2020.
