'Sweet Tooth' Season Two Keeps the Expectations with Multiple Subplots

When the Netflix fantasy drama Sweet Tooth premiered in 2021, it was a huge success. Set in an apocalyptic world where most of mankind is wiped out by a virus called 'The Sick', it bore a stark resemblance to the erstwhile COVID-19 pandemic, which the audience could relate to.
The success prompted Netflix to make another season of it, answering many questions and connecting many subplots.
In the first season, the gullible but beloved child protagonist Gus, a human and deer hybrid, went on an adventure to find his mother and made diverse friends. He shockingly discovers that he is just a laboratory experiment created by Dr Gertrude Miller, whom he thought was her mom.
After many events, Gus loses his friends and is captured by the persistent villain, General Abbott. He is imprisoned with other hybrid children for experimentation, and season two starts right from there.
From the very first episode, Gus and his friends constantly struggle to devise a successful escape plan. For many episodes, it feels like the plot of Muhammad Jafar Iqbal's teenage novels, where a bunch of kids plan together to escape from evil men in a clever but hilarious way.
But Gus and his hybrid friends are not the only ones to plan their escape. Back in the first season, Gus's reluctant protector and father figure, Tommy Jepperd, was seemingly killed by Abbott's army, the Last Men, and the keeper of the hybrid preserve, Aimee Eden, lost all her hybrid children to Abbott after a failed escape plan. The two parental figures band together this season to save their children from the clutches of the evil Last Men.
Other subplots were not explored well in the first season. Dr Aditya Singh and his wife Rani were introduced in the first episode, but it was unclear their key roles in this show.
In this season, as Abbott's prisoner and scientist, Aditya finally comes into contact with Gus and discovers a cure for 'The Sick'. But he becomes obsessed with research, and his downfall is how obsession can destroy your loved ones and everything.
Another subplot is Becky's, the teenage leader of the Animal Army, which fights against the Last Men. She is on a journey to convey Gertrude's message to Gus, and under the circumstances, she finds her sister, Aimee's adopted hybrid child, Wendy.
General Abbott is the most confusing villain in this series. Played by South African actor Neil Sandilands, he is seen as charismatic and ruthless at first, but in another scene, he is seen making dumb mistakes and screaming over them.
His ruthlessness against hybrid children makes him a terrifying villain, but even he and his army get defeated by the wits of Gus, Jepper, and Aimee.
The story of Sweet Tooth isn't finished yet, as Gus still has to rescue his mother, Gertrude, aka Birdie, who is trapped in Alaska doing research.
Gus has his friends and father figure on his side in his Alaska mission, while a new villain and Aditya chase them for their own motives. Will Gus prevail? Fans have to wait for season three.
