'The Vampire Diaries' nostalgia ruined by Indian remake 'Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal'

Remember when Damon Salvatore shook the internet with his first dialogue, 'Hello Brother'? U.S. television channel The CW aired the teen supernatural drama series, 'The Vampire Diaries,' from 2009 to 2017.

Due to its engaging storyline, a stunning cast, devoted fan base, excellent production value, strong characters, continual surprises, the exploration of issues, fan fiction, and ease of access on streaming platforms, The Vampire Diaries ranks among the most beloved television programs of its genre.

The show's talented cast and devoted audience make it stand out. It has a wide fanbase and widespread appeal because it's based on a best-selling book trilogy by L.J. Smith. The show's protagonists are well-developed and engaging because of the depth of their personalities, histories, and goals.

The unexpected turns in the story and the ensuing tension always leave audiences wanting more of this show. The fact that it can be found on major streaming services like Netflix and Hulu also contributes to the show's widespread appeal.

The Vampire Diaries

It is a supernatural drama that tells the stories of the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon, in Mystic Falls, who are vampires. The plot has a messy love triangle between Elena and Salvatore brothers. While the characters try to combine their supernatural skills with their humanity, the drama addresses symbolism, loyalty, and atonement. As the story proceeds, various supernatural species, such as werewolves, witches, and hybrids, are introduced.

Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal

Decades later, a remake of The Vampires Diary came out of India, making fans cringe and roll on the floor laughing.

'Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal', Starring Reem Sheikh, Karan Kundra, and Gashmeer Mahajani as Isha, Veer, and Armaan are the serial's protagonists. Eventually, Isha crosses paths with Armaan, who is instantly smitten by her natural charm and sweetness. Armaan being enigmatic, secretive, and mysterious, Isha finds him appealing. As he seems to her, she asks him how old he is, and he says 122 revealing that he is a Wolf or Bhediya. And here, too, we get the love triangle.

The similarities

Apart from the names and the Oberoy brothers being werewolves, the storyline is identical. The first episode of 'Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal' was an English-to-Hindi translation of TVD. The most powerful and loved character of TVD was Bonny, a witch and guess what? In the Indian version, we have Mahek, whose superpowers are yoga. How come yoga is going to save her from supernatural things?

Though TVD is a decade old, its VFX still soothes the audience's eyes. Well, no comments in 'Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal'. Although some viewers have critiqued the show for being too similar to previous supernatural romance shows, its makers have insisted that the concept is original and distinct, although the resemblance is uncanny.

The show has garnered mixed reviews from viewers and critics alike, yet it has a strong fan base and is still popular. However, it has potential as it has talented casting like Reem, Karan, and Gashmeer, but why does it have to look like a cheap version of the original?

However, some spectators commended the show's production values, with many praising the elegance of the costume and set designs.

Imitation and reworking are standard practices in the entertainment business. Many popular films, TV series, and novels have been inspired by or converted from other works, usually with the goal of giving the original material a fresh twist. If there is no fresh element, the end product will be hilarious as 'Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal.'
