Toofan: The Promising storm in our cinema

Toofan, Raihan Rafi's highly anticipated ambitious action thriller, has recently created a cinematic storm nationwide. This high-octane movie is a compelling tale of violence, corruption, and the never-ending quest for power.

The story mainly revolves around Toofan, a born killer who rises to become Bangladesh's most potent don and leaves a path of violence behind him.

The movie is crafted with lots of charismatic performances. The electrifying performance by our megastar Shakib  Khan, who portrayed the character Toofan, left many audiences in awe. With sheer intensity, Shakib Khan delivered what was expected from him.

Locations, costumes, and make-up suited the movie's setting. The film's technical prowess is equally impressive. Raihan Rafi's direction is sharp and assured.  The cinematography by Tahsin Rahman is simply stunning, capturing the gritty urban landscapes and the intense confrontations with a cinematic flair.

All the actors playing the leading roles have done a great job. Mimi Chakraborty and Masuma Rahman Nabila provided supporting solid performances as the women in Toofan's world with their fluent performances. Gazi Rakayet, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Misha Sawdagor, etc., gave befitting performances according to their characters. Chanchal Chowdhury ruled the screen with his brief appearance as CID officer Akram. With witty dialogues, comic relief, and fluent acting, he gave an enjoyable performance for the audience.

Now let's come to the film's main attraction- Shakib Khan. It's great that he is taking up good projects as per his stardom and trying to do something different with every movie. His recent works indicate his effort to make every character memorable and unique.

Shakib Khan's performance as the titular character is nothing short of mesmerizing. He seamlessly transitions between the charming and the chilling, captivating the audience. His movements, speech, looks, dialogues - everything was catchy. It is visible that a lot of work has been done behind this character.

Shakib Khan dominates the screen with his charisma and presence. He has given his all as 'Toofan', the ruthless gangster who radiates an aura of power and domination evident in every shot. The film revolves around Toofan and who could play it if not Shakib Khan.

One common saying is that we could never employ Shakib Khan to his full ability. He was seen playing similar characters in a limited area to demonstrate his level of acting and character work.

Raihan Rafi could cover that gap to some extent, but in doing so, he created another gap in the film. And that is the story of the film.

A movie with just the hero's swag and violence cannot make a mark in people's minds without a strong story behind the hero's actions. Not much is said about Toofan's motives or ultimate goal behind his many violent actions. What he wants and why he wants - it needs to be clarified. As a result, the audience needs help connecting with Toofan, and similarly, connecting the audience with the character's emotions in the movie needs to be included in some places. Also, in the first half, a few scenes had no connection with the main story.

And the biggest miss in 'Toofan' is not being able to use so many excellent actors. Especially with the characters of Shahiduzzaman Selim and Suman Anwar, doing only one scene is a big waste. Also, the characters of Salahuddin Lavlu and Misha Sawdagor could have been expanded. It is well known that the stronger the villain in a film, the more intense the hero-villain battle, and therefore the more exciting the film becomes.

The reference to this movie was KGF, which Raihan Rafi has mentioned in many interviews. No one should have any objection to making something new inspired by the theme of other movies. Instead, he has shown courage by making a movie on a large canvas as such.

The director succeeded in making Shakib Khan the ruthless demigod we wanted to see. But all the successful mass hysteria-creating movies had solid stories and hero-villain clashes besides a violent protagonist full of swag. That's the portion where the director failed to pull things off properly.

In the end, Toofan is a cinematic force that must be appreciated. Because this is the first time something has been done on such a big canvas. Chanchal Chowdhury's performance and the movie's post-credit scene try to control some damage in the last part.

With its electrifying performances and stunning visuals, the film is a must-see for fans of action-lovers and Shakib Khan. If you want to enjoy a cinema hall entertainment type of movie with little to analyze, Toofan is a must-watch.
