Are you one of those who love to sip on coffee or munch on your favourite burger in this scorching heat wave? Then this one's for you!

As the heat becomes increasingly blistering and searing, you might find yourself asking what foods you need to avoid this summer to keep your body and health alleviated. Well, here are the top ones that you should try to avoid.

Spicy and fried foods

If you love eating spicy and fried foods, you need to read this before relishing those meals.

During the summer season, our body's digestive capacity is compromised and calls for foods that have natural cooling properties.

However, the overconsumption of excessive spices can have a heating effect on your body, which can cause inflammation, acidity, bloating, diarrhoea, excessive sweating, and skin irritations. So, Spicy food should be avoided.

Tea-Coffee

As a country with a significant tea production, we love drinking tea and gossiping at every social gathering. While you might drink tea or coffee to combat lethargy and drowsiness, sipping them excessively might increase body temperature and cause dehydration. The diuretic component caffeine increases the production of urine or causes diuresis.

Carbonated drinks

Carbonated drinks such as soda, energy drinks, beverages, and diet drinks are very popular ways to quench thirst in the sweltering heat. But these drinks are packed with high sugar content.

Overconsumption of these drinks can increase urination, which leads to loss of essential minerals from the body. Also, carbonated beverages can fill the stomach with carbon dioxide, which can cause a lack of appetite, stomach aches, and gastric troubles.

Red meat

Red meat is thermogenic, which means it increases the body's heat while digesting it. That's why consuming red meat might make you feel uncomfortable and hotter in the summer.

It is rich in calories and packed with saturated fat and sodium, which can elevate the likelihood of heart disease and high cholesterol levels, trigger inflammation and oxidative stress, and cause constipation.

Street foods

Your mother may have warned you not to eat the spicy, tempting jhalmuri, bhelpuri, fuchka and kebabs that you see on the streets now and then. She had a valid reason to do that.

The foods you see on the streets are mostly kept in the open, which makes them even more unhygienic. Most of them are oily, greasy, and super decadent and are easily ruined by heat during the summer. This can lead to stomach issues, indigestion, acidity, and many foodborne diseases.

Citrus fruits

You might have a misconception that drinking or eating a lot of citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes is very healthy and helpful for health. But, it can stimulate your stomach to produce more acid and heartburn by irritating the lining of the oesophagus if it's consumed on an empty stomach.

To keep your body and gut health functioning, avoid these specific foods or avoid eating them immediately. Instead, opt for hydrating foods, fruits, and cooling foods such as watermelon, cucumber, coconut water, mangoes, pineapples, vegetables, and yoghurt.
