How Artificial Intelligence is shaping our daily life

"Alexa, set my alarm at 7, set a reminder for my meeting at 9, order my usual groceries, send the drafted messages to my manager, what is the forecast today? Will there be traffic in my usual way? And oh, playing songs from my favourites today." Voila! You get your morning sorted out. But did you do this ten years ago? You had to look up the weather by yourself, order through a phone call manually, and the list goes on.

What the Artificial Intelligence (AI) did is unthinkable.

AI was a fantasy in science fiction just a few decades ago. Now, it is incorporated into the core of our daily lives.

The truth is, AI technologies are silently working behind the scenes to make our routines smoother, brighter, and more personalised.

Be it your alarm adjusting to your sleep pattern or your grocery list updating itself based on your habits. Even for a simple Google search, AI is constantly working to find the best results for your convenience. AI is gradually transforming our habits little by little.

People are starting to ask ChatGPT random questions, which can be easily done by a Google search. So, what could be the reason? Well, they explained that it was an easier and more efficient way to ask GPT or Bard. They will collect just the information you were looking for. So why bother filtering many sites?

AI and Sleep Technology are working together. Smart alarms and sleep trackers, such as those found in fitness bands (e.g., Fitbit, Apple Watch) and apps (e.g., Sleep Cycle), use AI to monitor users' sleep patterns. These devices track our movement, heart rate, and even breathing to determine individual sleep cycles.

Instead of jolting us awake at a fixed time, AI-enabled alarms wake us gently during a light sleep phase.

So, the user's day starts fresh. AI can even help devices collect and analyse sleep data over time, offering suggestions on improving sleep hygiene.

Adjusting bedtime, reducing caffeine intake, or changing lighting conditions are some of the options.

"Hey Siri, what are the events for this week? Then, cancel my appointment on Mother's Day. And set a reminder to buy a present. Recommend that I wear something chic for today's office party."

AI guides you through day-to-day events and minor chores. Thanks to machine learning, these assistants become more efficient with use.

Over time, they learn your routines-when you usually leave home, what kind of music you like in the morning, and what tasks you postpone.

They nudge you with personalised prompts, effectively becoming digital organisers that support time management and productivity.

Smart home systems like Google Nest or Amazon Echo use AI to control lighting, heating, cooling, and even appliances based on user preferences and patterns.

For instance, if you turn off the lights at 10 PM, the system might start doing it automatically. If you lower the thermostat before bed, AI can adjust the temperature on its own.

AI algorithms analyse usage data and suggest energy-efficient settings. Over time, your home learns to operate efficiently with minimal manual input, saving you both time and money.

Smart refrigerators alert you when food is about to expire, and some apps recommend recipes based on available ingredients, all thanks to AI. Grocery apps powered by AI, such as Instacart or Amazon Fresh, track your previous purchases and predict what you will need next, sometimes even before you realise you are running out.

Meal planning apps use AI to recommend dishes tailored to dietary needs, calorie limits, or fitness goals. Some can even plan a week's meals based on their preferences and generate a shopping list accordingly.

As we move into our workday, AI continues to play a central role.

Fabiha Afrose Ridita, a software developer specialising in Java, said, "I use AI to give suggestions for becoming a good software developer and to fix bugs in my code. It accelerates my speed of work."

In emails, AI tools like Gmail's Smart Reply and Smart Compose offer predictive text.

In video conferencing tools like Zoom or Microsoft Teams, AI helps with noise cancellation, real-time transcription, and even facial recognition to tag participants.

AI even helps with academic writing. Shahara Rezwan, a third-year student majoring in chemistry, said, "I ask ChatGPT or Bard about research topics or suggest papers to read. I often tweak my assignments with AI. GPT is excellent in this case. It criticises your capability for betterment." Some language instructors suggest sharpening English speaking skills through talking with ChatGPT.

Productivity tools like Notion, Trello, and Microsoft 365 now integrate AI features that can summarise documents, prioritise tasks, and send timely reminders.

AI-enabled virtual meeting assistants can also take notes, set follow-up reminders, and ensure that action items are not forgotten.

Streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify use sophisticated AI algorithms to suggest content based on your watch or listen history. These suggestions are not random. They are brought to you using behavioural data, preferences, and even the time of day.

AI also enhances gaming experiences by creating intelligent non-player characters (NPCs) and adjusting game difficulty in real-time.

In smart TVs and connected devices, voice recognition powered by AI allows users to find content easily without lifting a finger.

E-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart use AI to recommend products, adjust prices dynamically, and predict what customers are most likely to purchase next. Chatbots provide instant customer service, reducing wait times and improving user experience.

Some AI-driven platforms can even scan your wardrobe virtually and recommend new outfits. AR + AI technologies are now enabling users to "try on" clothes, glasses, or makeup virtually, eliminating the need to visit physical stores for many items.

AI sometimes appears as a guru for many people. Ms Fabiha continued, "I also discussed my personal life problems and career guidelines from AI." Many people are actually habituated to this. Some seek relationship advice from an AI chatbot, some create virtual relationships with AI bots, which may be weird, but oh well, AI comes as a knight in shining armour for these people. Whether that's a good thing or not, that's a different discussion, but AI is definitely shifting our mindset into something new each day.
