Updated :

Birth certificates play a crucial role in various official procedures, and inaccuracies can lead to complications during verification. To streamline the correction process, the Birth and Death Registration Information System now allows individuals to update their birth certificates online.

This service offers the convenience of adding both English and Bangla names, attaching photos, and more. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to navigate the online birth certificate correction process.

Important points to consider

  1. Maximum corrections: A birth certificate can only be corrected a maximum of seven times. It is crucial to ensure accuracy before submitting the application.
  2. Stable Internet connection: Maintain a stable Internet connection throughout the process to avoid any disruptions.

Step-by-step guide

    • Start by visiting the official Birth and Death Registration Information System website at https://bdris.gov.bd/.
    • On the homepage, select 'Apply for Birth Record Correction.'

Enter details:

    • Enter your birth certificate number and birth date.
    • Complete the Captcha to proceed.

Search and confirm details:

    • After searching, your registration details will appear. Confirm and proceed to the correction stage.

Specify corrections:

    • Specify the required corrections and attach necessary documents (proof of birth location, addresses, and supporting documents), ensuring each document does not exceed 100KB.

Relationship and contact details:

    • Specify your relationship to the person if applying on behalf of someone else.
    • For personal applications, select 'own.'

Print and visit Councillor's office:

    • Print the application form and keep the application number and OTP.
    • Visit your local Councillor's office with the printed form, a passport-sized photo, and document copies.

Payment:

Post-submission:

    • After submission, you will receive a hard copy of the corrected birth certificate from the local office after processing.
    • Track the application status online, but be aware of potential delays due to software issues.

Special cases:

  • Parents with birth registration number: Corrections can be made using their number, and corrected names will automatically update on the certificate.
  • Born before 01/01/2001: Corrections for parental names are part of the overall process.
  • Parents deceased: For births after 01/01/2001, proof of death is necessary for corrections if parents are deceased and do not have a registration number.
