Dhaka's Aloki Gallery welcomed the 'Rising from the Ashes Exhibition 2023' on Friday, marking the commencement of a five-day event aimed at aiding the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6.

Organisers of the exhibition hailed it as a remarkable collaboration between Turkish and Bangladeshi artists, a testament to their extraordinary partnership.

During the opening ceremony, organisers emphasised that the event not only strengthens cultural bonds but also stands as a symbol of unity and social responsibility.

The inauguration, being held at Aloki Gallery in the city, has been organised by Turkey-based the Cemal Toy Art School, Beyond Innovations and Technology, and Istanbul-based artist and designer Tuba Ahsan.

Turkish Ambassador Ramis Şen inaugurated the event.

Ambassador Sen underlined the growing cultural ties between Turkey and Bangladesh, expressing his belief that the exhibited artworks would celebrate the burgeoning friendship between the two nations and embody the resilient spirit of Turkish culture.

Tuba Ahsan, a fashion designer and artist from Istanbul, serves as the primary organiser of the exhibition and is leading the initiative alongside the Cemal Toy Art School of Turkey.

Samira Zuberi Himika, an artist and vice president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), lauded the joint effort as an example of the industry's and charity's commitment to constructing sustainable wooden houses for the victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake disaster that occurred on February 6, 2023.

Tuba Ahsan expressed her artistic goal, saying, "I seek to celebrate women's inner power across different nations and cultures. I aim to capture that connection in my paintings. By selling these paintings, I hope people will join us in fulfilling this humanitarian mission."

Mosaddique Ahsan, managing director of Beyond Innovation and Technology, revealed that the exhibition has generated nearly US $0.4 million from exhibitions worldwide and has already led to the construction of 18 houses for earthquake victims.

ASM Asaduzzaman, a member of BASIS and CEO of Spinoff Studio, stressed that the celebration of Turkish and Bangladeshi arts would further enrich the socio-economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

The exhibition is scheduled to conclude on September 26
