Following days of incessant rainfall, the influx of hilly slope water from upstream has led to an abnormal surge in the water level of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati, reaching a dangerously high point.
In response to this critical flood situation, authorities decided to open all 16 spillways or sluice gates of the Kaptai dam at 10 PM on Saturday and release water through the gates at 6 inches per second.
However, none of the dam's spillways were opened in the night.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has now decided to open all spillways of the Kaptai Dam between 8:00 am and 9:00 am tomorrow (Sunday), the manager of the Kaptai Hydropower Plant ATM Abduzzaher said.
