238,000 people affected by flooding in Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona

A total of 238,000 people have been affected by the flooding in three districts of the Mymensingh Division, according to Md Ali Reza, additional secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Ten people have been killed in the flooding, he said at a press conference at the ministry on Wednesday.

“Thirteen Upazilas in Sherpur, Mymensingh, and Netrokona have been flooded and 73 unions and municipalities have been affected,” Reza said.

“A total of 63,171 families are trapped by the water. The total number of flood victims is 238,391.”

Reza said: “Eight people in Sherpur and two people in the Mymensingh District have died due to the floods for a total of 10.”

“A total of 140 shelters have been opened to flood victims. Currently, 1,337 people and 561 heads of livestock are taking refuge at these shelters.”

A total of 20 medical teams are on duty providing healthcare to victims in the three districts affected, he added.
