A total of 26 garment workers were killed in the recent student-led mass uprising, Bangladesh Garment Sramik Sanghati, a platform representing garment workers, said on Thursday.

Of the 26 killed, six were in Ashulia, six in Gazipur, and 14 in Narayanganj, the group said at a press conference in Dhaka.

Taslima Akter, the president of the platform, read out a statement at the event.

Monika, the sister of Sumon Islam, a worker from Shanta Garments who was shot dead in Ashulia, called for justice, saying, "No other worker should be shot for protesting."

Bangladesh Garment Sramik Sanghati also urged authorities to immediately pay overdue wages to garment workers and fulfill their demands, including fair wage assessments and other rights.
