Dhaka University authorities have said that as many as 300 rooms of Rokeya Hall and Sir AF Rahman Hall were vandalised during the quota protests.
The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, visited the damaged halls on Friday, bdnews24.com reports.
Following his visit, Kamal said the university administration has already assessed the extent of the damage in the halls.
“Regular educational activities will begin once the University Grants Commission approves the financial sanction, the halls are repaired, and the necessary procedures are complete,” he said.
According to Kamal, the situation veered out of control due to the sudden attacks during the protest movement.
“This is why we could not do anything. The hall provosts have said that they couldn’t stop the acts of vandalism due to the students' anger.”
He also added that student politics will not be halted on the campus when the university resumes classes.
“We will ensure that only regular students are assigned rooms,” Kamal said.
