4-member task force formed to probe Sagar-Runi murder

The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a four-member task force to investigate the murders of journalists Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been appointed as the head of the task force.

The Ministry's Public Security Division announced this in a circular on Wednesday.

The task force will also include representatives from the police department and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Additional DIG level, as well as a representative from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) with director-level status.

The task force is required to complete the investigation into the murder of the journalist couple, Sagar and Runi, in accordance with the relevant laws and submit the investigation report to the High Court within the next six months. It will have the authority to co-opt additional members if necessary.

The circular states that this task force has been formed in accordance with the High Court Division's order dated September 30 regarding the investigation into the murders of the journalist couple.
