Bus tickets for Eid-ul-Azha journeys on northern and southwestern routes from Dhaka will be available from Friday, both at counters and online.

The decision was finalised at a meeting of the Bangladesh BusTruck Owners Association, its acting general secretary Shubhankar Ghosh Rakesh confirmed bdnews24.com on Wednesday.

“From the morning of the 16th of May, tickets for routes to northern and south-western parts of the country will be available,” he said.

“Most operators will release tickets online, though some will still be sold at counters.”

Shubhankar added that there were complaints during the last Eid regarding fares on air-conditioned buses.

“Passengers were unhappy. Many said they were being overcharged. The government does not fix fares for air-conditioned buses — the owners do,” he said.

“This time, instructions have been given to ensure no extra fare is taken. We will also monitor the issue.”

Depending on the moon sighting, Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be observed in Bangladesh on Jun 8.
