Ahsan Habib to lead CIC

Ahsan Habib, the Commissioner of Taxes for Tax Zone-15, has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the National Board of Revenue's (NBR) Central Intelligence Cell (CIC). He will officially assume his new role on September 28, 2024.

During his tenure at Tax Zone-15, Mr Ahsan has initiated significant investigations, including a probe into the tax files of prominent figures such as business tycoon S Alam’s family and Awami League leader Sheikh Selim and his family.

Previously, he played a key role in helping the government recover Tk 500 million in evaded taxes from the gambling metaverse platform, Ulkagames.

Mr. Ahsan joined the BCS Tax Cadre as part of the 15th batch in 1995, securing the top position in his cadre. He holds a postgraduate degree in Geology from the University of Dhaka, where he also graduated at the top of his class.

The NBR confirmed his appointment through an official order issued on September 18, 2024. In addition to Mr. Ahsan's appointment, two separate orders were released on the same day, involving the transfer of 49 commissioner-rank officers at the field level.
