Ruling Awami League MP elected from Jamalpur-1 constituency Noor Mohammed on Tuesday demanded for giving opportunity to invest black money in the capital market.

He came up with the demand while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal 2024-25 in Parliament.

Noor Mohammed said that there was an opportunity to whiten black money in the past as well.

"The government cannot discriminate against honest taxpayers even if they give special benefits to tax evaders."

He termed the opportunity to whiten black money with 15 percent tax as discriminatory and unethical.

Noor Mohammad said that the stock market has been at the bottom for the last two months and It has gone at such a level that there is no way to talk about it.

“Here (In the stock market) the finance minister could have kept the opportunity to whiten the black money. I request the finance minister, if possible, to keep the opportunity to whiten the black money in the stock market,” he said.

Referring to the proposal of 25 per cent tax on imported cars by MPs, he requested the finance minister to reconsider it.

“We are new MPs. You can do this (impose tax) for those running MPs who have also become lawmakers earlier.”

Nur Mohammad said that corruption is now the most talked about topic in the country.

"Names of such persons are coming in the media which embarrass us (Awami League). Some people in Bangladesh are becoming rich fast. The name of Bangladesh is at the top in that list," he said.

Nilufar Anjum said that a large number of educated people are unemployed in our country.

"She requested the finance minister for temporary allowance for the unemployed people before entering the job after the education or starting the business."

She feels that the budget would have been more humane if the government gave subsidy on sanitary napkins.

Regarding the imposition of duty on the imported car for MPs, she said, this decision is revolutionary. It’s a great decision.

Appreciating the proposed budget, AL MP Kazi Keramat Ali said that attention should be paid to recovery of defaulted loans.

"Many take loans and launder the money abroad. Attention should be given to this."
