Algeria proposes joint committee with Bangladesh to explore common interest

Algeria has proposed the formation of an intergovernmental joint committee with Bangladesh for holding discussions and consultations on issues of common interest between the two nations.

The proposal was floated by Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, when he was paying a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, according to a foreign ministry press release.

During their meeting, the adviser congratulated Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani on his appointment as the ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh.

The discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, with particular emphasis on cooperation in the fields of energy, education, trade, investment, and agriculture.

The Algerian envoy emphasized on holding a high-level bilateral visit between the two countries as soon as possible time.

The signing of a good number of MoUs and agreements between Bangladesh and Algeria was also explored during the meeting which includes Air Services between Dhaka-Algiers, an exchange programme between Foreign Service Academies of both countries, etc.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral mechanisms, including convening the next round of Foreign Office Consultations to be held in Algiers at an early date.
