All DCs protest proposed 50:50 promotion ratio

Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from all 64 districts in Bangladesh have protested a proposal by the Public Administration Reform Commission to change the promotion ratio for the Deputy Secretary position. 

They issued their protests in separate statements outlining their concerns on Wednesday.

Under the current system, 75 per cent of promotions to the Deputy Secretary role are allocated to officers from the Administration Cadre, while 25 per cent go to officers from other cadres.

However, the reform commission briefed the media on Tuesday that it plans to propose a shift to a 50:50 ratio with equal distribution between the two groups. 

The Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) also opposed the proposal.

The BASA submitted a written protest on Wednesday to the Cabinet Secretary and the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
