Finance Minister has announced that all government officials will be brought under the Universal Pension system.

In his budget speech in parliament on Thursday, he said, “Already, a decision has been taken to include newly appointed officials of state-owned enterprises.”

“From July 01, 2025, newly appointed officials of other public offices will [also] be included in the system,” he said in his budget speech in parliament on Thursday.

“The operating expenditures of the Universal Pension system is being borne by the Government and the profit earned by its fund is expected to be distributed among the pension policy holders.

“Hence, the Universal Pension system is going to be one of the most lucrative pension schemes in the world.

“If all the citizens above 18 years of age can be included in the system, their social safety will be bolstered.”

In March, the government announced that all autonomous, semi-autonomous, state-owned, statutory, or similar organisations, along with their subsidiary institutions, would enroll officers or employees joining after July 1 into the universal pension scheme.

However, the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association is opposing this decision, arguing that it will discourage talented people from joining public universities as teachers.
