Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani, the leader of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, who was arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, has been released on bail.
He was released from the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail at around 11:45 am on Monday.
According to relevant sources, a case was filed against Mufti Rahmani on February 6, 2008, under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Uttara West Police Station. He was granted bail from the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday, August 25.
Three other cases filed against him have also been withdrawn.
Ansarullah Bangla Team, an Al-Qaeda-inspired militant outfit now known as Ansar al Islam, gained prominence following the murder of blogger Rajib Haider on February 15, 2013. The outfit was subsequently banned in May 2015.
