The Bangladesh Army has been granted the power of an executive magistrate. This authority has been conferred on commissioned officers of the army.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Tuesday, stating that this provision will take effect immediately and remain in force for the next 60 days.

Following the nationwide clashes related to the quota reform movement, the then government had deployed the army and imposed a curfew across the country on the night of July 19.

Subsequently, on August 5, the government led by the Awami League was overthrown by a student-led uprising. Three days later, on August 8, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Nobel laureate economist Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Despite the formation of the interim government, the army remains deployed across the country in the current situation.
