The list of nominees named for the Bangla Academy Literary Awards-2024 has been suspended, Cultural Advisor Mostofa Sawrar Farooki announced in a Facebook post on Saturday.
The suspension came amid controversy over nominees named for the awards two days after the Academy announced the awards honouring 10 eminent writers.
In his post, Farooki wrote: “Reviewing bizarre policies that make way for such absurd and coterie awarding should be our first priority.”
He also called for a review of the Academy’s management and policies.
"We will now move towards a radical reform of the Academy. The country is undergoing reforms, so why not the Bangla Academy?” the Cultural Advisor rhetorically questioned.
The Bangla Academy introduced the literary awards in 1960, five years after its establishment in 1955.
