Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Satunary unveiled Bangladesh Betar apps to facilitate airing programmes of Bangladesh Betar on mobile phones all over the world.

The minister inaugurated the apps marking the 81st founding anniversary of the state-owned radio, which began its journey on December 16 in 1939, reports BSS.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan, Information Secretary Khaja Mia, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmud, among others, were present in the function with Bangladesh Betar director-general Hosne Ara Talukder in the chair.

Before addressing the function, Hasan inaugurated the ‘Bangladesh Betar Apps’ and airing of Betar Chattogram centre programmes all over the country through Bangabandhu Satellite.

Speaking on the occasion, the information minister said it is now the era of social media and people are using mobile phones. Like earlier, people don’t listen to radio programmes at indoors or outdoors as they have mobiles, he added.

“After taking the charges of the ministry, I thought the wireless radio must be taken into mobile otherwise it will be difficult to popularise the Betar. For this, I urged the concerned authority of Betar of taking steps so that people can hear the programmes from mobile phones through apps. Now, people of all over the world can hear the programmes of six centres through mobile phones,” he said.

The minister put emphasis on popularising the apps as people would not get the facilities if they have no apps. For this, it is important to carry out publicity in mass media to popularise the apps, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
