Bangladesh will observe a day of mourning on Thursday (May 23) following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Tuesday declaring the state mourning on Thursday, a local media outlet reports.

On this occasion, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational institutions, as well as all government and private buildings, and Bangladesh missions abroad.

Special prayers will be held in mosques across Bangladesh for the peace of the deceased's soul on Thursday. Prayers will also be organised in other religious institutions, the notification said.
