Bangladesh Chhatra League has expressed its solidarity with US students demonstrating for Palestine independence.
The student wing of the ruling Awami League voiced its solidarity during its rallies held in different educational institutions across the country on Monday.
General students were also part of the rallies.
At Dhaka University, the solidarity rally started at Madhur Canteen and ended in front of anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture.
During the rally, the Palestine flag was hoisted.
Earlier on Sunday, BCL President Saddam Hussain called for a solidarity rally across the country in support of an independent Palestine.
Responding to his call, BCL leaders and activists from different public and private universities and colleges of Dhaka, including Dhaka University, attended the rally at the base of Raju Sculpture.
BCL President Hussain read out a memorandum titled ‘Memorandum of Peace’ at the rally.
“Our legacy is one of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the principles of justice and equality,” Saddam Hussain read aloud from the memorandum. “Just as our forefathers fought bravely for the liberation of our own land, so too do we stand with our Palestinian brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom.”
The memorandum further states, “We strongly condemn the forceful suppression of their rightful demand to divest from the apparatus of the genocidal regime. The forcible expulsion of their settlements, coupled with a despicable assault on students and educators by security forces, flagrantly undermines the fundamental democratic principles of freedom of expression and assembly that we cherish. Students of these campuses are demonstrating the rejuvenating power of courage. This rejuvenating power is undermining the decades-long suppression of the Palestinian dream.”
