Former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed has skipped his appearance before the investigation committee of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) despite getting additional 16 days.
The former police officer was scheduled to appear before the ACC’s probe body at 10:00 am on Sunday to face questions regarding the allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Local news portals said he did not appear before the commission within the scheduled time.
The ACC on May 28 summoned former IGP Benazir and his family members to quiz them over graft allegations and amassing huge properties beyond known sources of income.
Initially, the commission asked Benazir to appear before it on June 6 and his wife and children on June 9, sources said.
However, Benazir and his family members didn’t appear before the ACC on the stipulated dates. They sought time from the Anti-Corruption Commission to appear before it for facing interrogation.
The ACC on June 6 fixed a new date for quizzing the former IGP. It asked Banazir to appear before the ACC on June 23. On June 9, it also granted Benazir’s wife and daughters 15 days of time and asked them to appear before the anti-graft body’s interrogation on June 24.
In a briefing on Thursday, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said Benazir Ahmed will not get any more time from the ACC if he doesn’t appear before it on June 23 for facing interrogation.
ACC rules and regulations do not have jurisdiction to grant for a second time.
“The investigation will continue. After completion of the investigation, the commission (ACC) will decide what to do or not to do,” Khurshid Alam Khan said.
