Bhutan has reduced the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for Bangladeshi tourists to $15 from $100.
The new visa policy went into effect on June 2, 2024, according to a notification by the Department of Tourism of Bhutan on Monday.
Under the new policy, 15,000 Bangladeshi tourists can now travel to Bhutan with the reduced fees every year.
The SDF was originally $200 before the Covid pandemic, then it was reduced to $100.
Bhutan introduced the SDF for visitors to make an active and meaningful contribution to the kingdom's preservation and progress.
The SDF enables investments in transformative programmes that sustain cultural traditions, protect the environment, upgrade infrastructure, and build resilience.
It was noted that Bangladesh and Bhutan enjoy a special relationship.
This relationship has been further strengthened under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in recent years.
