A Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines has returned from the UAE's Sharjah after a six-hour delay due to a mechanical issue.
The aircraft eventually landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 1:30pm on Wednesday, bdnews24.com reports.
The same plane was scheduled to fly to Bangkok later in the afternoon. Due to the disruption in Sharjah, the Bangkok-bound flight was also slightly delayed.
Biman’s Public Relations Officer Khan Sadi said the airline had not yet determined the cause of the delay in Sharjah.
He added that the Boeing 737 was being deployed for the Bangkok flight scheduled to depart at 2:30pm.
Earlier in the week, a Boeing 777-ER operated by Biman and bound for Saudi Arabia's Dammam was forced to return to Dhaka shortly after takeoff after a malfunction signal related to cabin pressure was detected.
The passengers were later flown to Dammam on a different aircraft.
In another similar incident, on Jul 16, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flying from Dubai to Dhaka via Chattogram was grounded at Dubai International Airport due to a wheel fault.
Replacement wheels and parts were sent from Dhaka on another Biman flight, and the aircraft returned to Bangladesh after a delay of 30 hours.
On Jul 24, another Biman Dreamliner experienced a mechanical issue while flying from Dubai to Chattogram.
The pilot detected that the landing gear door was not closing properly and returned to Chattogram. After repairs, the flight resumed to Dhaka two hours later.
