BNP leaders are politicizing the physical condition of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, a convict in graft cases, who is allowed to stay at home on humanitarian grounds, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
"BNP isn't that much worried than they are doing nasty politics over Khaleda Zia's health condition. On the contrary, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making humanitarian approach to Khaleda Zia on health ground," he told a discussion at BSMMU's Milon Hall.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) arranged the discussion marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day with its Vice-Chancellor Prof Sharfuddin Ahmed in the chair.
AL Presidium Member Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana spoke, among others.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said his party never wants to stay in power by force and it isn't doing so and won't do so in future too.
Noting that the people will give their verdict evaluating works of parties, he said AL seeks vote from people after making development activities and it would never try to go to power by force.
Asked about calling counter programme to BNP, the AL general secretary said his party is staging peace and development rallies, not doing anything countering BNP's programme.
He said they are staying in streets to safeguard the people's life and property.
Quader said BNP expects and waits for foreign interventions mentioning, "They are waiting with expectations that the USA will put them to power."
BNP is getting impatient after thinking that why the sanctions and visa policy are not applied against the government and why the government is not toppled, he added.
About countries expressing concern over human right situation in Bangladesh, the minister said some big powers are showing their dominance across the world centering democracy and human rights but human rights are being violated every now and then in those states.
They are now out to talk about democracy and human right situation in Bangladesh, he added.
