Bodies of three students recovered from river in Sirajganj

The Fire Service and Civil Defence have recovered the bodies of three schoolboys who went missing after going to bathe in the Fuljore River in Kamarkhand upazila of Siarajganj district.

Two bodies were recovered around 12:30 pm on Sunday from the Jhatibelai area of the river, said Inspector Apu Kumar Mondal of Kamarkhand Fire Service.

Earlier on Saturday evening the Fire Service staff and locals recovered another body, reports bdnews24.com.

The dead were identified as- Krishna Niyogi, 15, from Bahirgola Ghoshpara, Sarjil, 15, from Soyadhangora Natunpara; and Rafi, from Jhatibelai village.

All of them were ninth graders at Sirajganj Collectorate School and College.

Witnesses Saikat and Abdul Momin said that five friends of Zarif, grandson of Upazila Parishad chairman Enamul Haque, came to visit him.

All of the six boys went to the Fuljore River for bathing in the afternoon. At one point, three of them drowned in the river while others swam to the riverbank.

“We reached the scene immediately and started the rescue mission. We recovered Rafi’s body at 7 in the evening and halted the mission,” said Apu Kumar.

“A team of divers from Rajshahi joined us and the rescue mission was resumed at 8:30 am on Sunday.

Sarjil’s and Krishna’s bodies were recovered between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm.”

The bodies were handed to the families of the dead, said Kamarkhand Police Station chief Mokhlesur Rahman.
