Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Brahmanbaria Palli Bidyut Samity (Rural Electrification Association) SK Sakil Ahmed (31) has been arrested on charges of destabilising the power sector. He was arrested from his rented house in the Ghatura area of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila by an army team on Friday morning.
Sakil, who was working as the AGM (IT) at Brahmanbaria Palli Bidyut Samity, was terminated from his job on Thursday night. He is the son of Sheikh Tafil Uddin from Paikgachha village under Khulna sadar upazila.
A team of army arrested him based on a case filed with the Khilkhet Police Station in Dhaka, accusing him of destabilising the power sector. They then handed him over to the sadar police station
According to sources from the Rural Electrification Board (REB), Sakil Ahmed joined REB on October 31, 2021. He was posted to the Bhola Palli Bidyut Samity office on November 7, 2021. Later, he was transferred to the Brahmanbaria Palli Bidyut Samity office.
Earlier on Thursday night, Md Arshad Hossain, Director (Administration) of the REB's legal wing, filed a case with the Khilkhet Police Station. The case named four officials from the Palli Bidyut Samity, including AGM Sakil.
The other accused in the case are Ali Hasan Mohammad Ariful Islam, Deputy General Manager of Bhabaniganj Regional Office, Lakshmipur; Md Jafar Sadiq Khan, AGM Engineer of Narayanganj Palli Bidyut Samity-1; and Md Moinul Hasan, Line Technician of the Belabo Sub-Regional Office, Narsingdi.
